Jiangsu finds no COVID-19 infection in massive check of imported fresh food

An intensive campaign to have COVID-19 checks and inspections for fresh food imported from January 1, 2020 as well as industry practitioners found all results were negative in East China’s Jiangsu Province.

Since June 28, the Jiangsu Health Commission has worked with the province’s Market Supervision Bureau, Department of Industry and Information Technology, Department of Commerce, Nanjing Customs and other departments to conduct the tests with a focus on key storage places and canteens, involving 588 batches of aquatic products, 1,463 batches of meat, and 561 batches of fruits and vegetables.

The 434 sites where samples were collected included cold storage facilities for production and processing enterprises (71), farmers’ markets (74), wholesale markets (87), third-party enterprises (46) as well as 156 canteens at governmental departments, schools, enterprises and constructions sites.

The checks involved 2,998 samples collected from imported fish, shellfish, crab, beef, mutton, poultry, vegetables and fruits.

Samples of 2,659 industry practitioners were also collected for nucleic acid test, including 890 throat swab samples, 883 anal swab samples, and 886 serum samples.

All test results of the fresh food and workers involved were negative.
