A Sichuan Airlines flight landed in Ningbo with code 7700

On the evening of September 22, flight 3U6960 Zhoushan-Dazhou-Chengdu Tianfu had a mechanical failure after takeoff. For safety reasons, the crew hung up the code 7700 and made an emergency landing in Ningbo at 19:16. Later, the aircraft was replaced to continue the flight mission. The flight has safely delivered passengers to Dazhou and Chengdu at 02:37 and 04:22 today.

The code 7700 is a way for pilots to communicate with the ground, which means an emergency, such as mechanical failure, sudden illness of the crew on board, etc., but it does not necessarily mean immediate danger. The pilot set the aircraft transponder code to 7700, one of the purposes of which is to seek route priority from air traffic control.

Sichuan Airlines 3U6960 took off from Zhoushan Putuoshan Airport at 18:58 on the 22nd. After stopping in Dazhou, it was expected to arrive at Chengdu Tianfu Airport at 23:20 that night. However, shortly after the flight took off that day, the code 7700 was displayed on the way and it made an emergency landing in Ningbo.

The reporter called Ningbo Lishe International Airport. The customer service staff said that the flight did make an alternate landing in Ningbo, and the reason for the delay was “airline reasons”. The subsequent aircraft has been replaced and departed from Ningbo at 00:39 on the morning of the 23rd. The Upstream News reporter saw from the Air Travel APP that the flight arrived at Tianfu Airport at 4:22 on the morning of the 23rd after stopping in Dazhou, with a delay of more than 5 hours.

A female passenger from Chongqing told reporters that the plane made noise more than ten minutes after takeoff. It was relatively small at first and then became louder and louder. There was nothing else unusual. Later, it was notified to make an alternate landing in Ningbo. “They said the plane was safe, but the landing was already quite noisy. However, because it landed not long after flying, everyone was still relatively stable. After the alternate landing, they said it might be an engine failure.
